End of the Year Wrap Up

Come check out my website I made this year!

Come check out my website I made this year!

Well, it’s that time again. It’s the end of the school year. I added in a cute little fade in-out to my pictures for my website, just the main photos. We might figure out how to add in a little blurb for some photos like captions, but that might not be until next year. I did a lot this year, and I honestly love my website, I think it’s awesome and I’m like obsessed with the colors. Hopefully everyone else who sees it likes it too, since it really is a reflection of what I can do. Well, thanks to everyone reading and viewing my blog, and maybe I’ll talk to you guys again in September. Pretty sure I’ll only have this class for homeroom, but I will definitely make time to post here. Thank you!

Finishing Even More

This is the bottom of my site so far. I have links to my social media, including my blog here, and a form for people to contact me. I’m so super excited to show everyone the finished product, because I think it’s gonna turn out really nice. So make sure you check back soon, because I’ll definitely put up an image that links to my website:)

Site Progress!

This isn’t the finished product, just me giving you an idea of what’s to come.

So this is my favorite part of my site so far. I really love the way it’s turning out, and the fontawesome icons are like the coolest thing ever! If you google fontawesome, they’re really cute and super easy to manipulate, and change to the size you want and things like that. I think they really add something nice to you page. I’m super excited to see how my website is gonna turn out, and I haven’t decided how to style my main photo yet, so it’s a surprise. When I do figure it out though, I’ll upload it on here. I’m just so happy with my simple but pretty style, and the black and white photos really help to make the colors pop. I’ll also upload the finished site, before and after the parallax. Then, I’ll be done! This website has been a lot of work for me, just because I haven’t really coded in two years, and I think I’m starting to get the hang of it. At least, I hope I am. All I know is that in the end I’m gonna be really happy that I took this class, and I’m gonna be really proud of myself for getting it done.

End of April Update

Updating on the personal site, I still haven’t gotten photos, or at least any photos that I’m really happy with. I’m definitely getting them this weekend. I have got to stop making excuses for myself, and just kick myself into gear. I know I’ve been slacking when it comes to getting photos, and I honestly really do regret it. However, I’m done making excuses, and I’m gonna make this personal site amazing, to the best of my ability.

My content is pretty good, and my layout looks nice, but now I’m just working on style, and a couple more technical things, like setting up my navigation to link to other sections of one page. And then, at last, I will get to work on the parallax. I really need to invest my time into looking at a video about building a parallax, and at least get a basic idea about how to work on it, so it won’t be too hard once I actually go to do it. I’m definitely gonna work on that this weekend, along with the photos, of course. From there it’s mostly styling, which I don’t think is my biggest problem area, it’s way harder for me to work in code.

For my photos, I have a couple ideas. For the contact photo, I was originally thinking of a phone, and now I’m thinking of a vintage-style phone, like maybe I could find one at a thrift store or something and just snap a photo of it, or my mom might have one laying around in our basement. For the about me photo, I’m thinking a photo of me with my cat(since she’s my baby). The main photo, that’s a mystery right there. I was thinking me at a computer working, but I don’t really know if that’s the kind of thing I want. I’m just going to have to try out a bunch of different shots, and once I get them edited, and I’ll put the ones I haven’t used on here, just for fun.

Next time I post will most likely be May, which is insane! I can’t believe how fast the year is going by.

Personal Site Update

I’ve been working on my personal site, and I’m excited, because I’m almost ready to put in my photos and start styling, which is my favorite part. Then, I’m gonna work on the parallax portion of it, which is also really exciting, since I’ve never worked with JavaScript before. I’ve looked at a few online tutorials of the parallax, and it looks really cool, and I can’t wait to just play around with the style of it. I’m going with a Tiffany blue color scheme for my site, which is really nice, and I’m thinking of maybe putting in a silver bow or something for the scrolling parallax. Hopefully I can take photos over break, and then come in next week ready to get those edited and set up. I should have plenty of time to take them, if I’m not too busy. After this is done, I’ll probably just go back to working on the school store site, and I’m sure I’ll be able to find something to do after that, maybe managing social media, taking photos for our class’ instagram or something. For now, I’m just really excited to see what this site ends up looking like, because my visions for it make it seem like it’s gonna be awesome.

Competition Update

So, the deadline for the competition site was last week, and I didn’t finish. Honestly it wasn’t even something good enough to upload, and I feel so bad about not uploading it. I know my time management was super flawed, and I seriously need to work on it. I am so disappointed in myself, because I thought I could do it, and I wanted to show everyone I could. I honestly didn’t even remember how to build a website as well as I should have, but I really thought I could refresh my memory.
This is really disappointing, and I’m really upset about it, but this just wants me to work harder on my personal site, so that next year, I’ll be really prepared for a competition, and I’ll be confident that I know what I’m doing. I need to start getting on that, learning how to do that, and I think once I do that, I can try to make it up to myself and my teacher for this failure.

Website Analytics

My teacher showed me how to look at the analytics of our school store website, and it was really cool to see how many people viewed the site either yesterday, the past week, month, or even the past year. Especially the purchase funnel, which shows how many people viewed the site, and how many people went to look at a product. It even tells you how many people bought products, or just added them to their cart, even if they ended up deleting it. It’s pretty interesting to look at all the analytics of the site, because I can see how much money we’ve made, and how many people are actually looking at the site.

February Fun

I’ve been working on my competition site, but took a short break to work on the new carousel campaign for the school store’s website, for valentine’s day. It’s been going pretty well, made one that I like, now I’m just waiting for the products to be up and then I can upload it, and then it’ll look great. Then, of course, there’s the competition site, which I still need pictures for.

The photos for the competition pet site are going to be photos of me and my partner’s pets, so we’re gonna have to take the photos all on our own. I have my camera ready, and I have a tripod. I have tons of pets to photograph. The only problem is that I have to get my animals to stand still! My larger dog will, but my teacup Yorkie, not so much, but the photos will be worth it. I’m really excited to make a great competition site, even if we don’t win, because the experience is something great in itself. The deadline is March 15, so let’s hope we can get to that! My time management skills are okay, so we should be fine, but it’s always something to keep in mind.

I’ve got to get more consistent with this blog, as well. After all, I’m using it in my portfolio site, which I’ll go back to working on for the rest of the year, after the competition site. My goal was to post twice a month, but I haven’t been as consistent as I wish I’d been. So, I’m still going to be aiming for twice a month, but if it’s only once a month at least, I’ll be somewhat happy with that.

Plans for the New Year

With the new year comes new projects. I am still working on my personal portfolio site, as well as the competition site. For my school store’s website, I’m working thinking of doing some carousel campaigns for the home page, and hopefully I can get some new products up there too. I’m really excited to see how everything turns out this year!
